Mike Williams' 10

 Memories

1) POST SENIOR LEAGUE FUN

      A) Video Baseball, Video Football - Frequent players were Travis, Tony, Dave Scott
Matt Schnieders, Dave Grieshammer, Lonnie. This became such an obsession that we sometimes felt compelled to organize tournaments in order to appease the gambleholic in all of us.
      B) Darts, Shuffle Bowling, Trivia Game in TIKI LOUNGE. There
was always something interesting going on with lots of interesting
      people inside!
      C) Just plain getting drunk when the mood struck. (Usually
after a poor night on the lanes!)

D) Body Bowling one night with the gang. Very bruised the
next day. Would do again!!!

2) GREAT SPORTS EVENTS VIEWED AT MIDSTATE

      A) 4/1/85: VILLANOVA 66 GEORGETOWN 64. This was arguably the biggest
upset in college basketball history. John Poehlein, Denny Hodges, Jim Pfautsch, and myself returned from bowling Monday night in Columbia in time to see most of the second half. Tiki was absolutely packed and everyone was rooting for Villanova.
      B) 1/8/94: KC CHIEFS 27 PITTSBURGH 24 (OT). This was a first round
playoff game where the Chiefs tied the game on a 4th and goal TD pass by
Joe Montana. The City Tournament was going on at the time.
      C) 10/27/85: My Royals win game 7 of World Series. It was a Sunday night and
the Tiki was virtually empty, but I will never forget it. (probably because
I may never live long enough to see them reach the World Series again!!)
      D) 10/24/85: Royals vs Cards in game 5 of world series. This was memorable
because it combined two things I love a lot - bowling & the Royals. Darrel
Reinsch was kind enough to furnish two extra tvs for the bowlers to watch. Of course, I was the only person in the place pulling for the Royals. P.S. I managed to shoot 631 that night; not bad with my team facing elimination.
P.S.S. Sorry about those last two, Lynn. Can we still be friends?

3) 1993/94 Season in Senior League. I led league in average at 216.55 in final season. Average race came down to last week with 4 or 5 guys having a realistic chance to take t.

4) 2/6/93: 300 game in qualifying round of Miller Lite Shootout on lanes 13/14.
Lynn, I think you were keeping score.

5) 1984, 1985: On city team tournament champions with Denny, Jim P. John P., and Dave Scott. I was still kind of new in town, and these great bowlers asked me to bowl with THEM! I'll never forget how special that made me feel.

6) 4/20/85: Won a Double Elimination Match Play Tournament. This was the only individual tournament I ever won at Midstate. I beat the late Roger Smith for the title; the money really came in handy as Chris was born just 34 days earlier. Those tournaments were always a blast, no matter the outcome.

7) 5/18/85: Picked up the 7-10 split for the only time in my life in another doubleElimination Tournament. It was on lane 4 in the eight frame and helped me squeek by Donna Mehrhoff. Sorry, Buz, if this one seems lame to you - we can't all pick up the damn thing twice in one season like you!!

8) 7/22/87: 300 game in Wednesday Mixed League on Lanes 11-12. Was bowling with wife in this league.

( yes, we used to do things together one upon a time)

9) MIDSTATE IDIOSYNCRASIES

      A) first time I bowled there after moving from KC, I was startled when the lane
"threw" the ball back at me with those classic above ground ball returns
      B) Sound of Gene Thompson's follow thru hitting ball returns.

      C) Miniature Golf on Lanes 13-20 during the summer. YOU HAD TO SEE IT
TO BELIEVE IT!! I think this even evolved into a combination golf/bowling
tournament at one point ( or we just endlessly talked about doing it)
Dave, you were a marketing genius way ahead of your time!!!

10) For those of you wondering, yes I am including the time I passed out on the john
from exess imbibing. It was 1/13/90, and I had just finished shooting 1049 for
Singles & Doubles in the City Tournament. I still am getting grief to this day!!
