For a couple of months the part time barkeeper at West Gate Lanes, Allen, has bragged about the Claysville Store and Cafe as a great place for fried chicken and country ham.  Finally he offered to buy, so I went.  He is right!  Some of the best fried chicken I have eaten in a restaurant in years.  The ambiance or the lack of  just adds to the charm.  Located within a stone throw of the KATY Trail at Claysville, Missouri,  it is only opened on the weekend and a season from late winter to late fall.  Do not let the appearance fool you.  Good food, good coffee, home made cobblers and pies.  KATY Trail users,  a great place to ride or walk to from Jefferson City for a good dinner.  A Guru recommend.
